Every 4th of July, we have a block party with our neighbors! It's been happening for years and the tradition continues. This year, Heather had the idea to step the party up a notch...with this giant, 30 foot inflatable slip 'n slide. Each family chipped in and we rented it for the day!
We offered our backyard as the landing spot, the slide was dropped off about 7:30 in the morning, so we got it inflated and filled with water. We waited for the sun to warm up the back yard and by 10:00 am it was ready to go. Blythe was the first to test it out! Then Garrett!
By 10:30 or 11, most of the neighbors had come over and joined us in the fun!
Water + kids = fun!
Trigg loved it!
Garrett getting a running start!
down he goes!
So much fun!
By 2 pm, the adults were testing out the slide and the bigger kids were going...needless to say, the water and yard were getting a little muddy! But still fun!!!
We stopped the slide around 4:30 or 5, that's when the city dropped off the barricades for the street and we set up tables in the street for a big pot-luck! I grilled 50 burgers and 50 hot dogs, everyone else brought a side dish to share and there was plenty of food to go around!
A quick selfie with B!
As we were eating, the Johnston/Grimes firetruck rolled down the street...right up to our barricades. It made us a little nervous, but then the firefighters explained that they get a list of the block parties (we had to fill out a form in order to get barricades) and so they try to stop by to see if the kids want to check out the truck! The firefighters were great, they let everyone check out the truck, ask questions and try on their gear!
What a fun surprise!
Happy 4th of July!
Hyperion golf course (literally right next door to our neighborhood) shoots off fireworks, so we found a good seat on our front step and enjoyed the show!
We had a great 4th of July celebrating right in our own neighborhood.
