Drake Relays

The end of April signifies a couple different things for me, spring is in the air and it's time for the Drake Relays! This year, I ran in the Drake Relays On-the Road Race, they have an 8k and a 1/2 marathon. I ran the 1/2 marathon Saturday morning, it turned out to be a great morning for a race!
After the race, Heather and I hopped on our tandem bike and pedaled to Drake Stadium to watch an afternoon of great track and field. My friend, Anthony, is a Marshall for the relays and he got us two tickets, thanks Tony!

At noon, there was a huge jet that did a fly by and these guys jumped out of the plane, the Navy Seal Leap Frog's gave us an aerial show!

...they locked together, spun in circles, all sorts of cool stuff!

...flew right over us...

...and landed on the football field, it was awesome!

...I have never seen anything like it before.

...and then their huge jet flew right over the stadium.

The winner of the best bulldog competition got to take a lap around the blue oval!

Another impressive performance was from this young gal, Shelby Houlihan of Souix City, she crushed the field in the high school girls 1500m run. She received the award for the girls most outstanding performer, winning the 3200m, 1500m and 800m all at the same Drake Relays, an accomplishment that has never been done before in the history of the Drake Relays!

Heather and I had a lot of fun at the Relays but we did get a little sunburned, oh well, welcome to spring!
